Job market tough for everyone, but brutal for students leaving college
The master’s level accounting student came to the job-hunting seminar at Ohio State University with fears about her prospects. She left with resolve to improve her networking, but also with a slight shrug.
The last words to her from a recruiter were: “I wish I had better news.”
Fewer companies are recruiting new hires on college campuses, and those that do have fewer jobs to fill, say directors of career offices at Central Ohio colleges. Counselors are telling students to perfect their resumes and stretch their thinking about what’s a desirable job.
“I don’t think you can look anywhere right now and not see panic (among students),” said Michael Petrecca, managing partner for the Columbus office of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP.
