Marnie Regen, Data Analyst/Evaluator, Women’s Recovery Association

This past June, Marnie Regen, found a position which she can utilize her hard earned Master’s in Sociology degree, working with the Women’s Recovery Association (WRA) as Data Analyst/Evaluator.

“The sector is becoming more professionalized,” states Marnie.

A seasoned nonprofit professional and member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals and the Society for Nonprofit Organizations, Marnie is passionate about social service organizations, especially WRA.

“I have worked with other substance abuse organizations and it’s nice to use skills I have learned and my educational background to support WRA.”

The Women’s Recovery Association (WRA) works with women of all ages and circumstances to a life of dignity and respect free from the effect s of substance abuse. WRA has a staff of fifty and serves more than five hundred women at five locations in San Mateo County.

Like many nonprofit professionals, Marnie has worn many hats in her past nonprofit lives.

“I worked with an environmental org. in development and moved up to become Communications and Technology Director, which is not anywhere near my Master’s degree.”

Marnie began her search for her new dream job on Opportunity Knocks in May after the organization she was employed with for nine years announced it would be undergoing restructuring.

After four interviews with other bay area organizations, Marnie applied for her dream job, a new position which WRA created due to funders request for stronger outcome evaluations.

Commenting on her job search in the San Francisco Bay Area, Marnie states that the job market is very competitive.

“The nonprofit job market is competitive, but it’s a fundraising professionals market in the bay area.”

When asked her career goals ten years from now, Marnie wishes to stay in the research and evaluation field.

“I can see myself continuing to work in research with WRA, it’s my dream job. I love the organization’s mission and I’m excited to be a part of it.”
